The 7 Sins When Starting a Home Based Online Business
Starting your own home based online business could be one of the most profitable decisions that you ever make. You can leverage technology in a way that can allow you to have more time to enjoy the things you previously didn’t have time for, because you were at work trading your time for money. When you have, a home based online business you have a lot of freedom. You can work when you want for however long you want. You call the shots, you are your own boss.
Sounds pretty nice, however this can be a blessing and a curse. You see, the majority of people have been conditioned through the repetition of working day in and day out to trade their time for money (which is a terrible way to earn money) and when you are working a home based business you are earning money based on your results, or the results of others, if you really understand leverage.
Many new comers to the online game tend to believe that having a profitable online business is easy and it is not. When you learn the basic concepts, you’ll see that it’s simple, but not easy. There’s a big difference between the two. Building a home based online business can earn more money than you ever thought possible, however on the flip side it can also put you in the poor house if you’re not careful. I know some people who have earned millions of dollars online with their home base business, I know others who have not earned a dime, and the difference between the two is often as fine as a razors edge.
When I first came online, I was on the wrong side of that razors edge and I’d like to share some mistake that I made and some that I know others have made when starting a home based online business. Mistakes you need to avoid at all costs.
1. Deciding to Fire Your Boss too soon.
This is a huge mistake that far to many aspiring entrepreneurs make and one I made myself. When you start researching how to make money online you open the door to a whole other world and it’s very easy to get lured into the hype and false promises that’s out there. It reminds me of driving into Vegas, all the lights and the glitter, the hope to get rich quick. It doesn’t happen and many people online fall into this “hype trap.” They convince themselves that they can replace their income in 30 days or less and they decide to fire their boss. Now, I’m not saying that it’s not possible to replace ones income in that time, don’t get me wrong I believe we all have unlimited potential and the person that can accomplish something like that has to truly believe it. They have to believe it in every cell of their being and their state of mind must be belief and not mere hope or wish.
A great teacher of mine gave some advice on this. He said if you decide you’re going to fire you boss and make your online business successful make sure that you’re needs are met for at least 6 months. This way you can focus on building your business and providing service. You can’t focus clearly on prosperity if you’re worrying about paying the mortgage or rent, or if you’ll have food. When worry comes in doubt and fear are not far behind and they are deadly.
2. Buying Programs that Offer Overnight Riches
It is possible to earn money fast online, however if you are new to the game you will more than likely loose. Every case that I have looked at where someone is claiming overnight success there have been other factors that are contributing to that success. Other seeds were sown long before the results came. Follow your intuition; if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
3. Trying to Rush Results
This happens all too often when someone doesn’t understand the process correctly. When you try to rush something, you are in essence forcing it to happen and it’s not going to happen, force negates. You can’t force a tree to grow, you just let it happen, and the same holds true here. Focus on consistent income producing action-orientated activities and results will follow.
4. Buying Expensive Programs
When you are just starting, your home based online business you don’t need to purchase the big marketing programs that cost $500 to $2,000 and even more. Sure, many of these programs are great, but trust me from experience these programs are going to confuse you and set you further back. Jumping into a huge expensive course is like trying to teach a baby to run before it has learned to crawl. You must have the basics down before you start messing around with the advanced techniques. Wok on the basics and then you can build on that.
5. Failing to Learn and Implement the Basics of Online Marketing
This is a HUGE one. To have a strong home based online business you have to have a strong foundation. You wouldn’t decide to build a house and start with the roof, would you? No, you’d start with the foundation because once you have a good strong foundation everything goes up after that rather quickly. The basic skills for your foundation are to create content, attract leads, build a list, provide value, build relationships, help solve problems, and earn money. Sounds like a lot and there are tools to help automate this as much as possible.
6. Trying too Many Strategies at Once (Focus on ONE thing until mastered)
This boils down to a lack of purpose. Get clear on WHY you are building a home based online business and this is deeper than making more money. Is it to spend more time with family, is it to be able to help others, what ever it is get clear on it and you’ll become more focused. Don’t get in the habit of jumping from one thing to another, “trying” a program or strategy and after a week deciding to find something bigger and better. Pick one strategy, stick with it until it’s mastered and producing revenue, and then bring on another.
7. Failing to Find a Mentor or Mastermind
Napoleon Hill who wrote Think and Grow Rich, which is considered by many as the entrepreneur’s bible, devoted an entire chapter to the Mastermind principal. This is vital, no one ever became successful by themselves, there was always a team a support group, someone to bounce ideas with, a mastermind. Find someone or a group that have the level of success you are looking for and study them, duplicate them, get to know them. Your success is going to be determined by a large extent by the company that you keep, so make sure it’s good company.
Remember, starting a home based online business can be the best decision you could ever make and by avoiding the seven sins of online business that I’ve outlined you’ll be able to save more money, avoid a lot of head aches and fast track you online business to success. My advice to stay persistent, know that you’re going to fail, but that doesn’t mean you’re a failure it just means you produced an unwanted result. Look at your failures as feedback that will allow you to correct, tweak, and move on.

Is Your Self-Image Sabotaging Your Success?
We all strive for success, yet very few ever reach it, why?
I used to ask myself that and it wasn’t until I really started studying human development and potential that I discovered that science and psychology have isolated the one prime cause for success or failure in life. It is the hidden self-image that you have of yourself. It controls your mind, just as surely as your mind controls your heartbeat. To remake your hidden self-image for your success and fulfillment is to remake your entire life.
If your wondering what kind of self-image you have, it is not difficult to figure out. All that’s required is that you take a look at the various aspects of your life, take a look at the Results your getting in your life.
All these results are the outer expression of the inner image.
Now as we alter this inner image everything outside begins to change. The biggest error that almost everyone makes is they attempt to change their income, they attempt to change their business, they’re attempting to change outside of themselves with out changing what’s going on inside.
I believe Emerson put it best when he said, “Of what use to make heroic vows of amendment if the same old lawbreaker (the self-image) is to keep them?”
For you to try and change the results in your life, in other words, what’s going on outside of you with out changing what’s going on inside would be just as foolish for you to look at your reflection in a mirror and try to change the reflection with out trying to change your physical appearance. Guess what, it’s not going to happen.
That is what people are trying to do. They try to change something outside without changing what is going on inside.
In 1902 James Allen wrote an amazing little book and in it he said something that is rich with truth. He said:
“ Mind is the Master power that molds makes,
And man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills;
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass;
Environment is but his looking glass.”
Maxwell Matlz said in his phenomenal book, Psycho-Cybernetics, that the self-image becomes a golden key to bring a better life because of two important discoveries;
- All your actions, feeling, behavior, even your abilities, are always consistent with your self-image.
- The self-image can be changed.
He went on to say that the self-image is a “premise” a base or a foundation upon which your entire personality, your behavior and your ear your circumstances are built.
Now to change your self-image we need to use our mental faculty of Imagination. It is with your imagination that you are going to build your new self-image, a winner’s image. This is something that sounds easy however, it is something that most people need help with and to go into great detail on this in one article is just not possible, what I will do is give you four basic steps to start this process.
#1 – Decide what you want.
Make the decision as to what you really want, not just what you think you can get, make a decision and get a clear picture.
#2 – Decide what you are prepared to give up to get it.
Let go of your old image, the past is gone. This is where the law of sacrifice comes into play. This is where you give up something of a lesser nature to make room for something of a higher nature.
#3 – Set your mind on it.
See your new image and become emotionally involved with it, feel it. Have faith and understand it will manifest.
#4 – Get on with the work.
Take action to move yourself in that direction. Take the fist step and have an expectant attitude. I heard quote one time when I was at a training with Bob Proctor in Florida, he said that the Quakers have a great saying “Pray and move your feet.” Nothing will change in your results unless you take action. You must act as if you were the new image now.
Right now within you is the power to do the things you never thought possible. This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs. That’s what your self-image is, it’s a collection of beliefs. It’s things that you believe to be true about yourself. Change your image, your beliefs will change and your life.

A Third Party Review of the Royal Cruise Matrix
A few months ago, I started getting emails from various top MLM leaders telling me to check out this awesome opportunity, it’s the best thing happening right now and it’s allowing them to turn a couple hundred dollars into $10,000. OK, emails like this don’t get me excited, curious, but not excited.
So I checked out the site, did some investigating and it appeared legit however it wasn’t in harmony with my purpose so there was no need to move any further. Now jump forward to present and some of those same people are now sending me the same type of email for the latest and greatest opportunity, wait I thought the other one was the greatest?.
The emails were short and sweet, “Here’s a super easy way to turn $100 into $25,000 and NO SPONSORING REQUIRED TO GET P-A-I-D.” Again, like last time, I checked out the site and it was for Royal Cruise Matrix. I did some searching around and the only thing I found was people promoting the opportunity, and they were all promoting the same way; not much value, just hype on how quickly you can cycle through and make cash.
Now I want to be clear right here that I am in no way affiliated with Royal Cruise Matrix and am in no way saying that the Royal Cruise Matrix is illegal, a scam, or anything of that nature, I am just sharing with you what I did find out in my brief research.
So, What is The Royal Cruise Matrix?
The Royal Cruise Matrix is a membership program that they say is partnered with Royal Caribbean Cruise lines and from their conference call recording, they have a solid finical backing, with whom I have no idea and could not find out.
What does The Royal Cruise Matrix Sell?
From the information, I gathered the Royal Cruise Matrix sells a membership program that for a one-time cost of $100, which you can only pay with a online check. For that, you get a lifetime membership to be a “Founding Ambassador.”
(disclaimer at the time of writing this the membership fee was $100, the company reserves the right to increase that at anytime)
You are then rewarded for buying a cruise. When you spend $1000 on a cruise through a Royal Cruise Matrix cruise line affiliate, you will receive 20% or 200 reward points. Those points go into a redemption account. What you’re doing is building up enough points to redeem for the equivalent cost of a future cruise. When that is done through a Royal Cruise Matrix affiliate, your cruise will be free.
The compensation plan is a three-tier revolving matrix program with no sponsoring required to be paid.
- $500 cycle after the first time through in Tier 1,
- $5000 cycle after the first time through in Tier 2,
- $25,000 cycle the first and every time through in Tier 3
- with a $10,000 matching bonus paid to the sponsor.
Are You Going to Get Rich With The Royal Cruise Matrix?
I believe that some people will make money with this program, are they going to get rich, it is highly doubtful. The people who are going to make a killing are the ones who already have massive lists. Earlier I said I had received several emails on this opportunity and I know that the same email also went to their lists, which I know are huge, so the law of numbers is in their favor.
In my opinion, you will never get rich with a program like this because I do not see the service that’s really being provided. The only way to earn money is by providing service and I do not see it here. I only see people telling other to find two people and so on, their whole focus in on cycling through the three tiers.
Personally instead of getting into a program like this I would invest the money to learn a skill set, some marketing, build value in myself. I would invest it on something that will pay back for life. If you are seriously looking at the Cruise Matrix I suggest you disconnect yourself from the hype and see what your intuition tells you. Follow that, it will not let you down; you just really need to listen.

Stop Trying to Get Free MLM Leads This Way
The other day I was doing some google research on a new MLM company when I came across an article that had the #1 spot on google for the particular key word I was researching. I scanned the article, clicked on the author and one article caught my eye. The article was about free MLM leads.
I’m all about generating free leads and traffic to my websites, in fact I teach others to do the same, and I’m always looking to learn new ways to expand my awareness and achieve better results because that’s the name of the game – Results. However, this article was not talking about that. The author’s method to generate free leads was to find lead companies that offered ‘free trials’…
That’s It! Can you believe it?
That was his way to get free leads. The alternative to these ‘freebies’ he said, was to buy the leads, or you could try generate your own. The main point of his article was regardless of where your leads come from you always market and lead with the benefits of your product and then your opportunity…
What? If you’re following that advice I’m going to suggest that you STOP! Don’t do that anymore, it’s the old school.
Listen, the world is shrinking, the internet has given us the ability to communicate faster, and it’s allowed us to extend our message around the globe with a push of a button. Things move at an amazing pace and if you’re still doing business the way people were five years ago, you need to change.
I’m going to share with you the problems with the advice the other author gave and I’ll uncover for you the correct way to position yourself for success in this new economy.
Problems with purchasing leads
First off let me ask you, if you purchase leads from a lead company, where did they come from?
Do you really know?
Sure the lead vendor or person selling you the leads can give you the idea that they are coming from here or there, but it doesn’t matter. The fact of the matter is that you truly do not know where they came from. You do not know what incentivized them to give up their name, email, and number. You had no control on the source.
This leads to the next problem which is… these people do not know who you are nor do they care, you’re just another person calling trying to ‘sell’ them on either your product benefits and or your opportunity.
Unless you are a killer salesman, and even if you are, this is a hard painstaking way to try to build a business and it’s not duplicated. If you want your team to succeed you need to have actions that are duplicatable. If you think cold calling leads, walking up to people in the mall, putting on home presentations is duplicatable, then I have a bridge for sale that you’ll love to have. The majority of people trying to build their business this way will give up because of the rejection and frustration.
A Little Secret You MUST Understand
I’m going to let you in a little secret and once you understand and internalize it, you will raise to a whole new level of awareness on how you build your business.
No one cares about your opportunity, THEY DO NOT WANT IT. What they want is a solution to their problem and they want to know if you are the person that can help them get to where they want to go and solve that problem.
Read that over again. Read it over and over until it is burned into your subconscious, it’s that important. So how do you do that? Read on and I’ll explain later, but first let’s go to back to the problems with these purchased leads.
Purchased Leads Do Not Belong to You
Now, the last problem with these leads is, they’re not yours. You cannot load into your own autoresponder (an automatic email follow up system) and I’m not talking about the autoresponder or lead management system your company has, that’s not yours, that’s your company’s. If something happens with the relationship you have with that company, or you decide to jump to something else, those people are gone.
What I’m talking about is your own system, you control it. You can build a relationship with the people in there and offer them products that solve their problems.
As you can see with purchase leads you have no control, you’re throwing away money, and remember – no one cares about your product or opportunity.
At this point you may be asking, “Well if I don’t market the benefits of my product and I don’t market my home business opportunity, then what do I market?”… I’ll tell you what you market.
Self Branding
You market YOU! You brand yourself. You build value in yourself as a leader, as a person who has the solution to others problems. You stop trying to sell people and start helping them. You put movement into what I call Action-Attraction Marketing and Mindset.
People do business with people that they know and trust. Now, I know some will say no that’s not right people do business with people that they know, like, and trust, but that’s not entirely true. You don’t necessarily have to like the person you’re doing business with. As long as you know them and trust them you will do business with them verses someone you don’t know or trust.
When you put value in yourself and give value to others you become magnetized, attractive and because of your actions you attract other to you. You must get your mindset straight and first see yourself as a helper, a leader, a giver. Start asking yourself what your talents and abilities are and how can you share them.
Givers Gain
You can start this mental shift right now with the decision that you are going to be the leader, the person of value you want to become. Everything starts with a decision. Make the decision and then make a commitment to self improvement. Get into studying yourself. A great book to start with is James Allen’s “As a Man Thinketh”. As a Man Thinketh – A Review of a Classic by James Allen
Unless you are brand new to the area of personal development and personal growth, you’ve not doubt heard of or read James Allen’s classic “As a Man Thinketh”.
This book was given to me several years ago when I first started to be coached and mentored by Bob Proctor, he was exposed to this book back in the early sixties when he got Earl Nightingale’s recorded narration of the book which is available at the Nightingale-Conant website.
I remember being on a call with Bob years ago and he was talking about a time in his early life when things were going really good and then all of the sudden everything went wrong. He had said that he locked himself in his house for a couple of weeks; it was a dark time as he put it. Then something moved him to start listen to the recording of As a Man Thinketh and it literally changed his life.
James Allen was born in Leicester, Central England, on November 28, 1864. Not much is know of Allen, he is sort of a literary mystery man. He was a Victorian author who wrote 18 books and resided in Ilfracombe, England with his wife Lily. As a Man Thinketh was not Allen’s favorite but by far was his most popular. Allen died in 1912 at 48 years old.
Thought and Charter
Allen begins the book with Thought and Charter, he says:
“As a man thinketh in his heart so is he,” not only embraces the whole of a person’s being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life. A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”
Many people have a hard time linking thought and circumstance and when we study this book, we begin to understand that we may not be able to change our circumstance but we can control our perception of our circumstance and our perception is controlled by our thinking and we choose our thoughts.
As a Man Thinketh creates an awareness of how important thought is. It is the preamble of everything. Everything begins with thought and when you study this book, you start to monitor your thinking.
This book is one of my favorites and I love the poetic style Allen has. Everything flows so beautifully that you can easily read it about an hour.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve themselves. I study this book often. It is one that kicked started my journey towards personal growth into high gear.
