10 Questions You Should Ask Before Starting An Internet Business

Starting An Internet Business

Starting an internet business or putting your existing business on the internet can be one of the smartest moves you could ever make.  Think about it.  At the time of writing this over 2.6 billion people, almost 40% of the world’s population, are online.  750 million households, 41% globally, are connected to the internet.  To me that’s mind boggling, but before you decide to stat an internet business there are a few question you may want to ask yourself.

#1 –  Why do you want to start an internet business?

This is the first question you want to answer, because it will drive your daily actions in building your business.  Just saying you want to make money online isn’t good enough.  Why do you want to make money online?  Do you want to spend more time with your family and friends?  Do you want to have the freedom to travel the world and take vacations?  Get deeper, what will the money you earn be used for?

#2 – Do you have a clear goal written out as to what you want your business to be?

Do you have a goal?  Is it written out and clear in your mind?  Without a goal you will have no direction, nothing to shoot for.  Writing out your goal is important because writing causes thinking, thinking creates an image, images cause feelings, feelings in turn cause actions, and your actions produce results.  If you don’t have a goal you’ll be running a race with no finish line.  You have to know where you’re going.

#3 – Are you willing to commit the time to start an internet business?

The old saying, if you build it they will come is horse crap.  You have to consistently work at building your online business.  Now, it is much simpler than building a traditional business, however it still requires you put energy into it.  Even if you only have a few hours each day, you can start an internet business.  It comes back to your “Why”.

#4 – Are you willing to sacrifice what must be sacrificed?

Trust me you will make sacrifices.  Now I don’t mean this in a negative way necessarily.  Sacrifice is nothing more than giving up something of a lower nature to receive some of a higher nature.  Are you willing to get off the couch and instead of watching hours of television each night use that time to move your business forward?  What else are you willing to sacrifice in order to win?

#5 – Are you willing to learn what must be learned in order to build an online business?

There’s going to be a learning curve here.  There are some skills that you will have to learn to effectively build and market your business online.  The good news is that these can be learned and they are not particularly hard.  The days of having to learn HTML code and be a “techie” in order to build a website and market online are over.  I know of many “grandpa’s and grandma’s” that are making it happen.

#6 – Are you willing to invest in yourself and business?

You’re going to have to invest some money to get started.  Now, this is nowhere near what you’d need to invest if you were starting a traditional business.  The initial and ongoing cost of running an online business can be very small in comparison.  McDonald’s, for example, demands a $45,000 fee and requires new franchisees have $300,000 in cash or liquid securities as a cushion.  To get started online correctly, you can do it for a little as $35 a month, that’s less a small cup of coffee a day at Starbucks.

#7 – Do you have a quality product or service that you’re passionate about to offer the world?

What are you going to offer in exchange for money with your business?  Do you have something you’re passionate about that you can turn into profits?  The best business online are the ones that the people building them are passionate about.  If you’re passionate about something, it’s not work because you’re doing what you love.  If you don’t know what to market, you can always market other people’s products (affiliate marketing) and earn commissions on your sales.

#8 – Is there a market for what you have to offer?

Don’t try and create a market, It’ll never work.  Instead find what people are already looking for.  Discover people’s problems and fill that need with a solution, which could be your product or service.

#9 – Do you have the tools needed to start an online business?

There are some basic tools you’ll need to start and run your business.  Of course you will need a computer and an internet connection.  There are a few more basic tools that you’ll need in order to run your business.  These include a domain name, a website, and a follow up system.  These are must haves and were included in the $35 a month I discussed in question six.  All of these can be set up in less than a day.

#10 – Do you want it?

I left this question last because it really is the only question, aside from you why, that needs to be answered.  Do you really want it?  Do you have a burning desire to build a business online and succeed?  You have to want it, really want it.  If you don’t, none of the other question matter.  However, if you have a burning desire and you keep that flame lit and continue to add fuel to it everything else starts to fall into place.

Starting an online business is simple, it’s just not easy.  It requires determination and a burning desire to succeed.  It can be one of the most rewarding decisions you ever make.  The ability to start and run a business from home doing what you love is amazing.  However it is something most people need help with.  If answered the question I’ve outlined and are ready to start your business online, but are unsure where to start then check out the system I use HERE, it just may be what you’re looking for.
